Mandatory Courses for Animal Facility Access

MINIMUM TRAINING required for performing FUNCTION A (EXPERIMENT EXECUTOR), FUNCTION C (ANIMAL CARE), and FUNCTION D (EUTHANASIA), according to the Ministerial Decree of August 5, 2021.
The following species-specific training path is required:

 

1) THEORETICAL modules to be completed online (FAD courses on the IZSLER website) or in-person (at the training institution)
Module 1 LEGISLATION
Module 2 ETHICS
Module 3.1 Basic Appropriate Biology – species-specific
Module 4 Animal Care, Health, and Management – species-specific
Module 5 Recognition of Pain, Suffering, and Distress – species-specific
Module 6.1 Humane Methods of Euthanasia
Module 7 Minimally Invasive Procedures without Anesthesia – species-specific

 

2) PRACTICAL modules to be completed in-person (at UNIFI or other institutions)
Module 3.2 Basic and Adequate Biology – species-specific
Module 6.2 Humane Methods of Euthanasia
Module 8 Minimally Invasive Procedures without Anesthesia – species-specific

 

3) 3-month INTERNSHIP at the affiliated facility

 

MINIMUM TRAINING required for performing FUNCTION B (PROJECT RESPONSIBLE), according to the Ministerial Decree of August 5, 2021.
ONLY THEORETICAL modules are required (FAD courses on the IZSLER website or in-person at the training institution, species-specific):

Module 3.1 Basic Appropriate Biology – species-specific
Module 4 Animal Care, Health, and Management – species-specific
