The general educational objectives of the PhD Program in Drug Area and Innovative Treatments are aimed at training researchers specialized in the field of drugs and health products, with a view to possible employment, once the title has been obtained, in both public and private sectors. The program is organized into two curricula, "Pharmaceutical and Nutraceutical Sciences" and "Pharmacology, Toxicology and Innovative Treatments", coordinated with shared courses that allow in-depth study of issues related to drugs, ranging from design, synthesis, and analysis to the experimental definition of pharmacological and therapeutic actions, including clinical pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacovigilance, and pharmacoepidemiology. Attention is also given to the study of substance-based medical devices and dietary supplements. Each PhD candidate is supported by a Supervisor and a Co-Supervisor. The Supervisor ensures the candidate’s placement in a Research Unit of the Department, where they will carry out their research activities and acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge as well as the experimental methodologies necessary for preparing the Doctoral Thesis. The Co-Supervisor annually agrees with the candidate on the training activities, which, regardless of the chosen curriculum, must necessarily include participation in Seminars organized by the Academic Board or delivered by Italian and foreign researchers hosted by the Department, as well as, at least once a year, the presentation in English of the research results achieved, in addition to presentations on topics relevant to the Doctorate.
